rotterdam-art-week 2025

Textile has a universal voice. It tells stories, connects cultures, and expresses creativity in villages and cities across the planet. From the colorful embroidered silk fabric of the Chinese Qipao dress to the subdued colours of the woolen cloth in Dutch traditional costumes, textile reflects the identity and traditions of various communities. Contemporary TEXTILE ART also tells stories. It is art that honors and combines ancient, sometimes forgotten craft techniques with modern conceptual ideas. Textile has played an important role in the history of my family through fashion, embroidery, needlework, and knitting fishing nets. TEXTILE IS IN MY DNA is a growing textile installation wall piece with embroidery, paper origami, crochet, weaving, knotting, beading, and small Barbie dolls. Ida Brookhart's art is sustainable and mainly uses leftover materials.
