the fetus
Textile origami artwork ´The Fetus´ deals with the digitalization of modern life and the ethical dilemmas they raise. Despite all the questions, technology, such as the ultrasound of the unborn child, is slowly but surely conquering our planet. The butterfly-like creature in the artwork represents the technological progress of the 21st century, but also the elusive Textile art, like technology, has undergone an enormous development. Its universal voice still tells stories, connects cultures and expresses creativity and it can still be a powerful instrument for social change. Contemporary textile art combines age-old and sometimes forgotten craft techniques with modern conceptual ideas. The intricate Japanese folding technique used here has become popular among modern scientists of all stripes because of the age-old mathematical principles that underlie it. These principles can be found everywhere in nature, connecting the traditional with the future, the tangible with the digital, and the local with the planetary: idabrookhart-art
